Opportunities for memorable dining abound in Bar Harbor.
Whether you would like a lobster feast or a gourmet meal,
you will find it all within walking distance of the inn.
We are happy to offer recommendations and assist you with
reservations.
Shopping
You are sure to find something special while shopping in
Bar Harbor’s galleries and boutiques, which offer
a wide range of Maine-made treasures, unique hand-crafted
items, art, jewelry and antiques. You’ll also find
outdoor gear and clothing, books, groceries, pharmacies
and other conveniences. Most shops are located on Cottage,
West, Main and Mount Desert Streets, but there are hidden
gems on quiet side streets.
Entertainment
There is always something going on in Bar Harbor. Built
in 1932, The Criterion Theatre is a venue for concerts,
movies and live theater. Take in a movie and enjoy great
pizza at Reel Pizza, or pack a picnic and listen to a free
concert in the park. And in the summer, you won’t
want to miss the ongoing music and arts festivals.
Shore Path
Take in spectacular views of Frenchman Bay and the Porcupine
Islands from the Shore Path, an easy 1/2-mile walk that
winds along the rocky granite shore and past historic cottages.
Beginning at the Town Pier, the path is a perfect place
to watch the sunrise or to take an evening stroll.
Bar Island
A part of Acadia National Park, Bar Island can be reached
during low tide when the sand bar that connects it to Mount
Desert Island is uncovered. On Bar Island, you will find
an easy hiking trail and perfect spots to enjoy a picnic.
The tide comes in quickly so please be sure to start back
allowing enough time to be back without wet feet.
Great Meadow Loop Trail
The Great Meadow Loop Trail is an easily accessible footpath
that will lead you directly to popular points in Acadia
National Park. Take a one-hour walk on the trail to loop
back to town, or branch off through the quiet meadow and
on to Sieur de Monts Spring and mountain trails, where your
options for adventure are endless. For a one-way trip, the
Island Explorer is your ride back into town.
